Everyday Makeup FOTD

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog!

The other day I was chilling with my sister and she mentioned that she'd like to know how to do the makeup that I was wearing. SO I thought why not create an everyday makeup look? Something simple that anyone can follow along and add their own touches to, to create their own look.

For this look I used all neutral colours and video will be up on my youtube as soon as I've edited it, so give me a few days lol.

Here are pics anyway...

I'm back! + Fake Tan, the Dangers Revisited

Today I am home sick from work. Not feeling too great right now so I thought this would be a perfect time to type out some of the thoughts that have been buzzing around my head lately and make a comeback on my blog.

So I’m going to write about a topic very close to my heart… chemicals in tanning products!! :D :D I’m definitely an advocate of the fake tan and 3000% opposed to sun beds. We know they give us cancer because they replicate harmful UV rays. I’m not going to go on about it for fear of offending people but let’s just say I don’t understand why. People still smoke when they know it kills them though soooo yeah. Perhaps we are all our own worst enemy and moan, moan, emo fb update.

NOW back to business. I’ve already mentioned before that the chemicals in fake tan that turn you brown have been linked to skin cancer.

How: Because the chemical reaction they cause in your skin to turn it brown makes you more susceptible to UV rays.

What does this mean for fake tan users: The day after you apply tan (or 6+ hours afterwards, once the chemical reaction has taken place and your skin is brown.) it is vital to wear sunscreen, avoid sun exposure and cover up. Keep this is mind when driving too, your arms, shoulders, face and neck are all exposed. I’ve also seen a few articles suggesting using an antioxidant moisturiser to help combat the free radicals.

Vitamin E has good antioxidant properties so look for body lotions which either specifically say antioxidants or that contain high levels of Vitamin E.

Here's some products that contain antioxidants...

Note: This effect lasts approximately 24 hours after tanning. After this period your skin will return to having a normal amount of free radicals during sun exposure. Yes unprotected sun exposure will still cause free radicals whether u use fake tan or not… so grab that sunscreen!

Don’t trust me, check the facts!

This article talks about a German study that found a significant increase in free radicals created in the skin from UV exposure, in perhaps a more easy-to-understand way than I do: http://www.savvyskin.com/are-self-tanners-bad-for-skin

Although I hate quoting Wikipedia this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydroxyacetone) actually quotes real scientific studies so I’m impressed. Well done Wikipedia. This is a good read as it explains the science terms in a way that the general population can comprehend.

Did you know that fake tan can cause cancer in more ways than one? Yep, just keeps getting better doesn’t it? This article (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2158253/Cancer-threat-spray-tan-Toxins-accidentally-inhaled-warn-scientists.html) explains new finds that when DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) and Erythrulose (the two active ingredients in fake/spray tans) are inhaled, they can penetrate cells and cause a mutative effect.

Huh? In layman’s terms they can cause a change in your DNA. This change is likely to result in cancer. (If only it could cause some sort of X-Men/Spiderman-like mutation that would see us all become superheroes… sigh.)

This means that spray tan users and appliers who breathe in the spray tan solution run a risk of developing lung cancer. Yep, u read right.

In the FDA’s safety regulation for use of DHA they also say “applied only to external parts of the body and not to the lips or any body surface covered by mucous membrane.” Basically some skin on your body is different to that of your limbs. For example your lips, genitals and the inside of your mouth. These skin cells don’t have the normal protective membrane as the rest of your skin and therefore absorb things very easily. So be careful when applying tan to the face to not touch the lips as these skin cells will absorb the active ingredients which can cause the same mutative effect as inhaling your spray tan.

You can check out the FDA’s safety specifications for DHA here: http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/ProductandIngredientSafety/ProductInformation/ucm134064.htm

Coastal Scents Haul #2

So while I'm editing my first ever tutorial video (woo!) I thought I'd do a short haul post for you all.

I recently bought some more stuff from Coastal Scents... my favourite place for purchasing makeup! They had a massive Halloween sale so I got quite a good discount. They also recently did a Thanks Giving sale and they usually have some pretty good sales around Christmas so keep an eye out for that at www.coastalscents.com

My parcel... with a little dent but nothing major

All packaged nicely and wrapped in paper and bubble wrap. I have not once had an item arrive broken :)

The three palettes I ordered; Camouflage concealer palette, Creative Me #1 eyeshadow palette and 10 Blush palette

How cute is the box for the Camouflage palette?! I totally want a chameleon :D

I love this because I can mix the colours together to make the perfect shade, no matter how tan or pale I go between the seasons.

Sunless body art Bronzer in Dark. My skin is actually fair to med depending on my tan but I get sick of wish-washy bronzers that you have to build up so much before you get any colour!!

They package the smaller items in a cute organza bag!

I LOVE CS brushes! They are such good quality and so cheap! From top to bottom they are: Pink synthetic Oval Foundation, Destiny eyeliner Superfine, Chisel fluff/Pointed crease duet, Black Crease brush, Angled brow define, Pink synthetic Oval Concealer and Pro Blending Fluff brush.

Shadow Worx Matte Primer, Bright Eyed in medium and Liquid Eyeliner in Black

Bright eyes under eye concealer in medium. This has a really nice consistency and covers really well but its soooo dark on me. I totally picked the wrong colour!

You can see it here next to where I swatched the bronzer. You can't tell from the picture but it is SO dark for my skin! Its quite orange too. :( ow

Shadow Worx matte eyeshadow primer. I really like this! It looks pale pink when it comes out the tube but it applies clear. It actually feels quite oily when you apply but it dries matte and smooth.

It really helps to keep concealer on too! I also use this over concealer before I put on a cream or powder shadow to help it stay on longer.

10 colour Blush palette with flash

And without flash

SWATCHESSSSS!! :D

Without flash
So this is the top row from left to right, as pictured in the palette above

And the bottom row

The next thing I got was the Creative Me #1 palette. I have wanted this for AGES because I love to use really bright happy colours!

Top row, hot pot colours from left to right are: CM001, CM002, CM003, CM004 they can be found on the coastal scents website here: http://www.coastalscents.com/makeup/palettes/eye-palettes/pl-040.html

Colours are swatched over an NYX jumbo pencil in Milk. The white cream base really helps the shadows to stick. I had to literally scrub my arm to get them off!

Second row. Hot pot colours from left to right are: CM007, CM008, CM006, CM005

Hot pot colours from left to right are: (Note they are shown in reverse order to the picture of the palette above) CM009, CM010, CM011, CM012

I love how vibrant these colours are! They look fantastic and really brighten up your eyes and get attention. I've gotten so many compliments on my eye makeup since I've been using this palette :)
Anyway I've got to go start getting ready for work, and hopefully film another tutorial! Thanks for reading and I hope you found this post interesting and helpful!

Peace.
